Two macaroons contain 630 mg of Omega 3 in each serving. Our Omega 3 macaroons come in 3 varieties: coconut, almond and chocolate. This new macaroon combines the flax seeds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds with the healthy properties of coconut to give you a healthy, high quality great tasting product. Two macaroons give you an astounding 650mg of Omega 3, 50% of the FDA protocol for Omega 3.

"Adding coconut products to your diet may have many advantages. Coconut oil is a neutral oil that doesn’t enhance or suppress immunity. Coconut contains medium-chain triglycerides which are quickly absorbed and turned into fast energy, not stored as fat. In fact, the medium-chain triglycerides have a fat-burning effect. One gram of fat provides twice as many calories as either 1g of protein or carbohydrates. Almost 50% of coconut oil is lauric acid, which is one of the principal fats in human breast milk. It protects a baby’s intestines until the child’s immune system is capable of protecting them on its own." Read more at Going ape over coconuts by Tom Mountford

Jennies macaroons are listed as #1 source of coconut by Dr. Mary G. Enig . According to this site, the edible lauric fats, such as coconut or palm kernel, can provide a unique source of both antimicrobial lipids and needed calories. The role of calories is important because the individual with HIV/AIDS -- progressively more immune-compromised with frequent bouts of infection -- very often has a diet that is inadequate in calories and/or has an inappropriate balance of macro and micro nutrients. These infections may be precipitated by opportunistic microorganisms, e.g., CMV, candida, and cryptosporidium.

Jennies macaroons are naturally gluten-free. For people suffering from uncureable celiac disease Jennies macaroons are extremely advantageous as they supply healthy nutrients free of gluten. Celiac disease is a digestive condition triggered by consumption of the protein gluten, which is found in bread, pasta, cookies, pizza crust and other foods containing wheat, barley or rye. Oats may contain gluten as well. When a person with celiac disease eats foods containing gluten, an immune reaction occurs in the small intestine, resulting in damage to the surface of the small intestine and an inability to absorb certain nutrients from food. Coconut-rich, gluten-free macaroons are indespensable source of nutritioning for such patients. From MayoClinic.com.
